Performance
Improvement How Are We Doing?
Patient Satisfaction Surveys are a standardized tool for measuring
performance improvement in hospital care. Klickitat Valley Hospital
uses two surveys: the Press Ganey Survey, an internal evaluation
tool, and HCAHPS, which is a public reporting of our performance.
Both surveys compare our hospital to other Washington State and
Critical Access Hospitals.
In the surveys,
patients answer questions about their perceptions of our healthcare
performance regarding medical staff in the hospital and the Emergency
Department, technician staff in the Lab and Diagnostic Imaging,
as well as registration, dietary, and housekeeping staff. Questions
evaluate issues such as doctor's concern for patient comfort and
understanding, technician's concern for comfort during tests and
procedures, nurse's concern for privacy, waiting time for appointments
and treatments, room cleanliness, and quality of inpatient food.
Our
2009 - 2010 indicators in both surveys show that Klickitat Valley
Hospital has made significant improvement in many areas, and in
some cases performs at levels that exceed both Washington State
and other Critical Access hospitals.
Patient ratings
of our Registration, ER nursing, and ER medical staff have exceeded
the ratings for all reporting hospital systems. Ratings of our
Inpatient nursing, medical staff, Lab, and DI staff have surpassed
other reporting Washington State hospitals.
Of course,
there are always areas for improvement: the surveys show that
patients' perception of room cleanliness is influenced by the
age of our hospital, which we are addressing with ongoing room
remodeling.
