Effective communication is essential to providing quality patient care – which is why the KVH Emergency team is so excited about it's new
On-Demand Interpreting System
.

The system combines live video conference technology with certified medical interpreting services to provide a cost effective communication tool for our ER doctors, nursing staff, patients and their families. Within 30 seconds, KVH emergency staff can be connected to a live medical interpreter, who offer a range of language options, including Sign Language.

Just days after implementing the system, the emergency team put it into action when two Spanish-only speaking patients presented to the ER. The system performed flawlessly – the patients, physician and nurse were all able to communicate clearly without any difficulty or interruption in care.

Sue MacDonald, RN demonstrates the Emergency Department's new On-Demand Interpreting System.
Having proven it's effectiveness, additional systems will be implemented at the Family Practice Clinic and the hospital's Medical-Surgery department.
