At KVH, we understand that the decision to have surgery is one you and your physician take very seriously. Our surgical suite incorporates advanced laparoscopic technology that offers patients a less invasive, same-day procedure for the treatment of many medical conditions, and our experienced surgical staff will work closely with you to coordinate all of your pre- and post-operative appointments during convenient weekly clinics.

Laparoscopy describes a group of operations performed with the aid of a camera placed in the abdomen that allows a health care provider to look directly at the contents of a patient's abdomen or pelvis. The laparoscope also allows doctors to perform various surgeries with just a small cut in the abdomen, including hernia repairs, gall bladder removal, appendectomy and gynecological procedures. The EGD (esophageal gastric duodenoscopy) is a procedure used to diagnose possible ulcers, gastritis, and pre-cancerous conditions caused by chronic heartburn. The majority of these conditions are easily treated with oral medications once they are diagnosed.

Another advancement in scope technology has made the ability to take biopsies and remove polyps present in the colon a relatively simple process. Colonoscopy procedures can be very effective in the diagnosis and treatment of many colon cancers and are the #1 preventative procedure for men and women over 50.

SURGICAL ANESTHESIA
The Anesthesia Department provides general and regional anesthesia including conscious sedation for general surgery. The department also provides technical expertise in trauma stabilization, cardiac codes and difficult IV starts, as well as postoperative education for patients and staff.
